Chargers Crack the Win Column

Box Score The wait is finally over for the Lancaster Bible men's soccer team.

The Chargers played their best game of the season as they defeated Baptist Bible, 2-0 behind goals from Kyle Lambertson and Brandon Wilcox, cracking the win column for the first time this season.

LBC (1-4-2) stormed out of the gate and controlled the play from the start of the game. They were rewarded just 3:47 into the game when Lambertson gathered in missed header attempt by Wes Smith and deposited the ball into the upper right hand corner. The goal was the first of Lambertson's collegiate career and gave LBC its first lead of the entire season.

"I thought we came out hungry and ready to go," Chargers' Head Coach Tom Ardt said. "We challenged every 50-50 ball and really controlled play."

LBC continued to have many of the chances later in the first half and early in the second half. BBC (1-8) had a few scoring opportunities, but the Chargers' defense continued to shine and keep the Defenders' attack at bay.

"I thought Zac Bonomo played especially well in the back for us," Ardt said. "Stefan Smith and Kevin Forsyth played well in the middle too. They helped create a lot of our chances."

The Chargers padded their lead with 12:25 to play when Wlicox drilled a shot from 20 yards out. BBC goalkeeper Dillon Bowman got a hand on the shot and tipped it into the air, however it came down and spun into the net, giving LBC a 2-0 lead.

"It was nice to finally score during the flow of play and not just off a set piece," Ardt said. "I thought our transition from defense to offense was terrific today and helped set up the majority of our chances."

LBC outshot the Defenders, 23-7 and held a 6-3 edge in corner kicks. It was the second straight game in this series that LBC has won, 2-0. The Chargers defeated BBC last season in the NCCAA East Region Semi-Finals by the same score.

The Chargers are off until Friday when they travel to New York for a game with Keuka under the lights at 7 p.m. LBC will play the next day as well against Wells at 2 p.m.
