Team Effort Leads Chargers to Sixth Straight Victory

Box Score Looking for their sixth straight victory on Wednesday night, the Lancaster Bible women's basketball team did everything they could in the first half to make sure that didn't happen. The Chargers committed 17 turnovers in the first 20 minutes and trailed at halftime, 30-27, for the first time since they trailed by two against Wilmington on December 13. It marked the first time all season that they have trailed at halftime to a Division III opponent.

In the second half, it appeared as though a different team had come out of the locker room as the Chargers exploded for 58 second half points en route to a 85-66 victory over St. Elizabeth.

Junior Brooklyn Wilson led the charge in the second half, scoring 16 of her 17 points on 6-of-7 shooting. Wilson's four three-pointers not only gave LBC the momentum they desperately tried to find in the first half, but also brought the crowd back into the game and crushed the Screaming Eagles.

Channeling his Charles Dickens knowledge, LBC Head Coach Doug Helsel offered his thoughts on the game.

"It was the best of halves, it was the worst of halves," Helsel said. "I guess the order is reversed in our situation, but you get the idea. The first half was awful and the turnovers we committed were unbelievable. We settled down in the second half and took it one possession at a time."

As the Chargers (11-2, 7-1 NEAC) settled down, the starters began to take over the game. Senior Lauren Heliger finished with 20 points, as did freshman Aubrey Folger who added 14 rebounds to her 20 points. Another star of the evening was sophomore Sarah Heilenman who finished one rebound short of LBC's first-ever triple-double. Heilenman finished with 13 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds.

Helsel was happy with the team's overall play in second half, but said Wilson's production in the second half was huge for the team.

"Brooklyn's confidence has been down lately," Helsel said. "She has put in extra time before practice this week and got her confidence back. She had a great game tonight and her playing well is key for us, because it's one more weapon opposing teams have to guard."

The Chargers return to the court for a rare Sunday game as they will take on Cazenovia in Cazenovia, N.Y. at 1 p.m. They will play the next day as well against SUNYIT in Utica, N.Y. Tip-off for Monday's game is scheduled for 12 p.m.

Notes:
-Heilenman's 10 assists are a program-record. The previous high was nine.

-The Chargers are 7-0 at home this season. They won seven games at home all of last season.

-The Chargers' 7-1 NEAC record has them alone in first place. They are 1 1/2 games ahead of Penn St. Harrisburg who they will host on January 30 that could determine not only the South Division champion, but the conference's top seed for the NEAC playoffs.
