Box Score The Lancaster Bible men's basketball team opened up the 2013-14 season with a loss to Oswego State, 62-50 on Friday night in Oswego, N.Y. The game is part of the Max Ziel Tournament that Oswego State hosts on a yearly basis.Â
The Lakers led, 26-23 at halftime, but opened the second half on a 15-3 run to open up a double-digit lead they would maintain the rest of the game. Lancaster Bible junior
Albert Suniga led the Chargers with 12 points, while sophomore
Dondre Perry added six points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
Lancaster Bible Head Coach
Marshall Tague said it was a tale of two halves, but that the Chargers put forth a great effort for a full 40 minutes.
"I'd give us an A- for the first half and a C- for the second half, Tague said. "But we made them work for everything tonight and to their credit, they hit some big shots when they had to in the second half."
Despite the loss, Tague thought there were plenty of positives for the Chargers, especially considering it was the first game of the season.
"We outrebounded them by 10 which is pretty amazing," Tague said. "I think our offense will come around, we just need to be patient."Â
CJ Dunston added eight points and six boards for the Chargers, while
Dave Long and
Trevor Marsh each added six points.
The Chargers will face Manhattanville in the Consolation Game of the tournament on Saturday at 2 p.m. Manhattanville lost to Neumann on Friday prior to Lancaster Bible's game. Tague said the team is not worried at all about playing two games in less than 24 hours.
"The guys are ready to go back out there tonight," Tague said. "They left everything out there tonight, but are physically ready to go. They are hungry and I think after tonight that if some things begin to come along a little bit, we can be a decent team."
