Chargers End Regular Season with Split

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Lancaster Bible women's volleyball team wrapped up its regular season with a tri-match split on Saturday at Messiah in Grantham, Pa. The Chargers lost to the host Falcons, 3-0 before rebounding with one of their biggest wins of the season over Wilkes, 3-0.
 
In the opener, LBC lost 25-13, 25-20, 25-13. Junior Katie Coomber had a team-high six kills, while sophomore Hannah Metzler added 14 assists. Five LBC players had 10 or more digs, led by Rachel Olson and Grace Scheuerman who had 14 each. Coomber added 13, while Tricia Coale and Metzler each had 10.
 
Messiah had 41 kills and 15 errors, while the Chargers managed just 16 kills against 16 errors.
 
In their second match, the Chargers upended Wilkes who entered the match with an 18-10 record. LBC won, 25-10, 25-23, 27-25. In the third set, the Chargers trailed 20-11 at one point before storming back to earn the 27-25 victory.
 
Coomber once again led LBC in kills with 10, while Rachel Olson had eight, followed by Joanna Butala who added five. Metzler paced the Chargers with 15 digs and added 23 assists. Aubrey Folger and Olson each had a block, while Folger added four kills against no errors.
 
"The team's focus was excellent during the Wilkes match, especially after we got down in the third set," Chargers Head Coach Lauren Bewley said. "I'm proud of the effort we gave to come back in that set and I think we are as ready as we can be for Tuesday."
 
Tuesday is the NEAC Quarterfinal where the Chargers will travel to Reading, Pa. to take on Penn St. Berks at 7 p.m. The Nittany Lions have defeated LBC, 3-0 in both meetings this season. The winner will head to the NEAC Final Four that takes place next weekend, Nov. 9-10 at Gallaudet in Washington, D.C.
