Box Score The Lancaster Bible men's volleyball team capped the home portion of its 2013 schedule on Tuesday night with a 3-0 sweep of Penn St. Altoona on Senior Night. The Chargers, who had battled the Nittany Lions in two five-set matches earlier this season, won, 25-22, 25-19, 25-19.
Seniors
A.J. Longacre and
Joey Brennen each had nine kills and added four and six blocks respectively. Senior Mitch Demko had six kills, while senior
Keith Mitzel had three kills, three digs and one block. Fellow senior
Andy Nguyen had a match-high seven digs for the Chargers who have won five straight home matches.
Chargers' Head Coach Evelyn Long said she was pleased with the Chargers' performance as the team used the match as a measuring stick to see how far they had come this season based on their prior results with the Nittany Lions.
"Because we played these guys at the beginning, the middle and now towards the end of our season, we thought this would be a great match to see where we are as a team," Long said. "We were prepared for a tough match and I think we executed well collectively."
The Chargers (11-7) had 45 kills on Tuesday night, while Penn St. Altoona managed just 25. LBC's
Miles Herron had a team-high 11 kills, but it was Longacre's thunderous kills and timely blocks that gave LBC the momentum they would need to win the match and improve to 2-1 against Penn St. Altoona this season.
"A.J. came out during warmups and said to the guys that he thought we could sweep them," Long said. "He led with his play and the guys responded around him."
The Chargers are back in action this weekend when they head to Erie, Pa. to take part in the Penn St. Behrend Tournament. LBC will face Keuka and Penn St. Behrend on Saturday and Thiel on Sunday.
