Box Score 3 The Lancaster Bible men's volleyball team spent the weekend in Erie, Pa. taking part in the Penn St. Behrend Tournament. The Chargers (12-9) defeated NEAC rival Keuka in a non-conference match on Saturday afternoon, but lost to the host Nittany Lions and Thiel. Below is a quick recap of each match.
Lancaster Bible 3, Keuka 2
26-28, 25-18, 25-20, 19-25, 15-11
LBC's
Miles Herron led all players with 15 kills, while
Corey Leonard came off the bench for an injured
A.J. Longacre to smash 11 kills and put up 10 blocks.
Alex Bahn added 12 kills, 12 digs and 30 assists as well as the Chargers defeated Keuka for the second time this season.
"Corey came in and stepped up to the plate and had a great match considering he worked as an outside hitter all week and did relatively nothing in the middle during practice," Chargers' Head Coach Evelyn Long said.
Penn St. Behrend 3, Lancaster Bible 1
25-11, 25-15, 23-25, 25-15
Joey Brennen had 12 kills and six blocks to lead the Chargers, while
Keith Mitzel added four kills and four blocks. The Nittany Lions had 48 kills compared to LBC's 24. LBC's -.057 hitting percentage marked just the second time all season the Chargers have hit at a negative clip and the first time since the team's opening match of the season against Juniata on January 19.
"We played up and down against Behrend," Long said. "Joey had an amazing game, but we need all parts of the team playing well to be successful against good teams and we didn't have that."
Thiel 3, Lancaster Bible 0
25-7, 25-13, 25-15
Mitch Demko had a team-high six kills for LBC, but the Tomcats rolled the Chargers for a straight set victory. Thiel finished the tournament a perfect 3-0 and has won five straight matches overall.
"We got crushed today," Long said. "Mitch had a good game on his birthday, end of story. I thought
Andy Nguyen worked really hard for us all weekend long, especially today against Thiel's good hitters. We need some practice time to smooth some things out, but we will be fine."
The Chargers return to the court on Friday when they travel to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. to take part in the Vassar College Invitational. LBC will take on Nazareth and Johnson & Wales on Friday and Vassar and NYU-Poly on Saturday.
