Box Score The Lancaster Bible women's volleyball team began the long grind of a possible 40+ match season on Friday night with a 3-1 loss to Elizabethtown. The match was part of the Crosstown Crossover which features Lancaster Bible, Elizabethtown, Franklin & Marshall and Penn St. Berks (F & M defeated Penn St. Berks, 3-1 on Friday.)
The two teams split the first two sets, with the Chargers dropping the first set, 25-15, but rebounding to win the second set, 25-20. The second set would turn out to be LBC's best of the evening has they smashed 11 kills for a .152 hitting percentage.Â
The Blue Jays regained their form in the third set as they won, 25-15 and then cruised to an easy 25-9 fourth set victory.
Freshman
Emily Olson led the Chargers with 10 kills, while
Grace Scheuerman had a team-high 12 digs. Sophomore
Hannah Metzler added five kills, 11 digs and 22 assists, while
Rachel Olson added five kills and 10 digs.
"We have lots of things to work on, but as far as opening matches go, this was a pretty good one," Chargers Head Coach
Lauren Bewley said. "Some of the good things that happened are a great jumping off point for the season."
The Chargers will be the Saturday host of the rest of the Crosstown Crossover matches. LBC will take on the Diplomats at 10 a.m., while the Blue Jays will battle the Nittany Lions. At 12 p.m., the Chargers will take on conference foe Penn St. Berks (the match will not count in the conference standings), and E-town will battle F & M.
