Box Score 2 The Lancaster Bible women's volleyball team swept both Baptist Bible and Wesley, 3-0 on Tuesday night at Horst Athletic Center, improving their record to 3-7. The Chargers defeated the Defenders, 25-15, 25-19, 25-13, and swept the Wolverines in the nightcap, 26-24, 25-22, 25-12.
LBC beat BBC in three straight sets for the second straight season as junior
Katie Coomber led all players with 13 kills and 15 digs. Sophomore
Rachel Olson added 10 kills and 15 digs as the Chargers never let the Defenders into the match and doubled up BBC with 38 kills to their 19.Â
Hannah Griffith had seven kills and seven digs to lead the Defenders (5-10).
In LBC's second match, the Chargers needed to hang on for dear life in the first set as they let a 19-11 lead turn into a 24-24 tie. A Wolverine service error followed by an ace from Olson gave LBC the set and gave them momentum to carry the next two sets.
"We tried to find holes for kills tonight, rather than just hitting the ball over the net," Chargers Head Coach
Lauren Bewley said. "I thought we were pretty successful and played pretty well."
In the second match, Coomber once again led the Chargers as she had 15 kills and 15 digs.Â
"Katie hit the ball well tonight and really played hard," Bewley said.Â
Sophomore
Hannah Metzler added six kills, 27 assists and 16 digs, while fellow sophomore
Aubrey Folger had three kills and two blocks.Â
"I think we did what was expected tonight and I was happy that our intensity improved from the first match to the second match," Bewley said. "I think it's always good to win in three, especially heading into a NEAC weekend where we'll need our energy."
The Chargers will open NEAC play on Friday night in Utica, N.Y. when they face SUNYIT. LBC will then face Morrisville State and Wells on Saturday.
Notes:
-The Chargers swept both Baptist Bible and Wesley last year as well.
-Metzler is just 31 assists away from surpassing the 1,000 mark for her career. Should she do it on Friday, she will have topped the 1,000 mark after just 47 matches (21.3 assists per match).
-Should LBC defeat Cairn and Valley Forge Christian next week, they will be the host for the NCCAA East Region Playoffs for the second straight season.
