Box Score The Lancaster Bible women's volleyball team fought off a surprisingly tough test from The King's College (N.Y.) on Monday night at Horst Athletic Center as the Chargers won, 3-0. LBC had to fight back from 23-20 and 24-22 down in the first set to win, 30-28 and then won the next two sets, 25-17, 25-16.
The first set was back-and-forth as both teams traded kills and errors for much of the set. Kelli O'Donnell's kill put the Lions up, 23-20 late in the first set, but the Chargers responded with two straight kills from
Rachel Olson and
Aubrey Folger to close the gap to 23-22. After a King's timeout, the Lions Hannah Eckart gave King's a set point with a kill, but once again LBC responded with two straight points to tie the set at 24-24.Â
Each team had several chances to put the set away before Folger finally won it for the Chargers with one of her six kills on the evening.Â
The next two sets were much easier for the Chargers as their serving and attacking percentages improved from the first set. LBC junior
Katie Coomber led all players with 12 kills, while
Joanna Butala led the team with 11 digs. Sophomore
Rachel Olson added seven kills and eight digs and junior
Emily Timberlake pitched in with 11 assists off the bench.Â
The Chargers (7-11) are back in action on Wednesday when they take on Goucher in Baltimore, Md. at 7 p.m.
