Chargers Collect First Win of 2013

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 The Lancaster Bible women's volleyball team played 13 sets of volleyball in about six hours on Saturday, but the physical and mental toll it took was worth it as the Chargers won their first match of the season.

The Chargers came back from two sets down to defeat Hood, 3-2 as they sandwiched the win with two losses, a five-setter to Mount Aloysius to begin the day and a three-set loss to Shenandoah to end the day.

In the opener, the Chargers played one of their best matches of the season, but dropped a tough five-set match to Mount Aloysius. The Mounties won, 18-25, 25-17, 25-22, 21-25, 15-11. The Chargers saved their best match of the season for the middle match as they overcame a two-set deficit to win, 3-2.

LBC defeated Hood, 16-25, 14-25, 25-22, 25-13, 15-11. Chargers Head Coach Lauren Bewley said she had to change some things up because of how tired everyone was getting.

"We were beat and ended up playing everyone on the team to try and get fresh legs on the court," Bewley said. "It was a strange match, but we hung in there and won it."

In the day's final match, the Chargers were defeated by host Shenandoah, 3-0. LBC lost, 25-17, 25-13, 25-17.

"We didn't play badly in the final match, we were just so tired," Bewley said. "We made some huge gains today and we are moving forward again."

LBC is off for 10 days as they do not play again until Sept. 17 when they will host Baptist Bible and Wesley for a tri-match at Horst Athletic Center. The Chargers will take on the Defenders at 4 p.m. and the Wolverines at 8 p.m.
