Chargers Stay Perfect in NEAC Play

Box Score The Lancaster Bible men's basketball team stayed undefeated in North Eastern Athletic Conference play on Friday night as they defeated Wells, 66-62 in Aurora, N.Y. Sophomore CJ Dunston had a game-high 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the floor, while junior Albert Suniga added 19 points for the Chargers who improved to 6-5 overall and 5-0 in NEAC play.

The Chargers trailed by two at the half, 29-27, and two minutes into the second half, Lancaster Bible found themselves down six, 35-29. Wells extended its lead to 43-35 with 13 minutes to play, before the Chargers went on a 13-5 run to tie the game at 48-48 with 8:13 to play.

The 13-5 run featured production from multiple players as Dunston, Suniga, Dave Long and Naheer Mirza all had field goals. The run continued over the next three minutes as well as the Chargers broke the game open with a 7-0 run to take a 55-48 lead with 5:37 to play. Wells did not go quietly and a three-pointer by EZ Garcia with 3:32 remaining made it 57-56.

It remained a one possession game almost the rest of the way and once again, the Express cut the deficit to one with a three-pointer, this time by Jordan Bishop with 1:36 to play to make it 61-60. A layup by Suniga as the shot clock wound down made it 63-60 with just over a minute to play, but Suniga missed to free throws 40 seconds later to keep Wells alive.

The Express could not convert on the other end and Suniga made one of two from the line to make it a two-point game, 64-62 with 12 seconds to play. Wells turned the ball over on its next possession and Mirza made both free throws with six seconds left to ice the game for the Chargers.

"It was a dog fight and a great win for us," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Marshall Tague said. "CJ and Albert were forces, but Naheer and Jordan Mellinger also played very well, especially defensively for Mellinger."

Mirza finished with 13 points and four assists, while Mellinger had a team-high eight rebounds.

Lancaster Bible will look to complete the weekend sweep on Saturday as they face Keuka at 1 p.m. in Keuka Park, N.Y.
