Chargers Keep on Rolling

Box Score Playing two games in the span of 18 hours isn't supposed to be easy, but the Lancaster Bible men's basketball team certainly made it much more difficult than it needed to be on Saturday. The Chargers built a 17-point halftime lead at 43-26, but just 8:37 into the second half, the lead was gone and the visitors trailed 46-45.

Lancaster Bible kept calm and kept the game close and finally pulled away in the final minutes to win, 74-67 and stay perfect in North Eastern Athletic Conference play at 6-0.

A three-pointer by Keuka's Casey Williams tied the game at 61-61 with 4:09 to play and it remained that way until CJ Dunston threw down an alley-oop dunk with 2:37 left to give the Chargers a lead they would not relinquish. Corey Leonard sank two free throws a minute later to make it a two possession game and after a Keuka miss, Dunston sank one of two free throws to give LBC a 66-61 lead with 1:12 remaining.

The Storm (4-9, 2-6 NEAC) cut the deficit to four a few times in the final minute, but could not make it a one-possession game and lost their fifth straight game.

Junior Naheer Mirza led the Chargers with 14 points and six assists as he was a perfect six-of-six from the free throw line. Dunston finished with 13 points and nine boards, while Leonard had eight points and was six-of-seven from the charity stripe. Sophomore Jordan Mellinger also added five points and five boards, while Albert Suniga, who battled foul trouble all game long, had 13 points.

"I think our depth really helped us today," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Marshall Tague said. "We were in foul trouble most of the day, but I think our bench was better and really gave us a spark today. It's a great win for the guys and we did well getting the job done."

Prior to this season, the Chargers had won just seven NEAC games in two seasons - they have six already this year and sit alone in first place. The Chargers will go for a season sweep of Penn St. Berks on Wednesday as they host the Nittany Lions at 6 p.m.
