Team Effort Helps Chargers Crush Nittany Lions

Box Score Shoot better than the other team, win the rebounding battle and completely shut down the opposing offense is basically the name of the game in basketball. Lancaster Bible checked off the entire list on Wednesday night as they swept the season series from Penn St. Berks with a resounding, 87-47 win at Horst Athletic Center.

The Chargers (8-5, 7-0 NEAC) broke the game open midway through the first half as they used a 20-2 run to take a 34-12 lead with 7:54 to play in the first half. Every shot seemed to drop in the first half for Lancaster Bible as they shot over 75 percent for much of the first half before ending up at 67.7% [21-of-31]. Conversely, nothing seemed to go in for Berks as they shot 17.1% [6-of-35].

Lancaster Bible led 51-23 at the half and though the Nittany Lions played better in the second half, the deficit was too much to make up and the Chargers poured it on midway through the second half to take a 45-point lead with four minutes to play before Berks scored the game's final five points to end the game at 87-47.

Sophomore Jordan Mellinger led five players in double figures with 13 points, while fellow sophomore CJ Dunston had 12 points and 10 rebounds. Dondre Perry also had 12 points to go along with his six boards and Luke Roundy had one of his best games of the year with 10 points and eight rebounds in 14 minutes.

"Luke had a really strong game tonight and played well down low," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Marshall Tague said. "I thought we challenged shots all night defensively and shared the ball offensively."

Both Naheer Mirza and Albert Suniga each had six assists, as Suniga added 11 points as well.

The Chargers will look to defeat a Penn State branch campus again on Friday as they host Penn St. Lehigh Valley in a game that is a make-up from January 7. A win will give the Chargers their longest winning streak of the season as Wednesday's win tied the four-game streak they enjoyed at the end of November and beginning of December.

Friday's tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Horst Athletic Center.
