Chargers Win Fifth Straight

Box Score Lancaster Bible relied heavily on their big guns Friday afternoon, but nevertheless, the Chargers got the job done and won their fifth straight game, a feat not accomplished since the 2004-05 season.

Junior Albert Suniga fell just two assists shy of a triple-double as he led the Chargers to a 68-51 victory over Penn State Lehigh Valley with 14 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists. Fellow junior Naheer Mirza had a game-high 16 points as well for the Chargers who improved to 9-5 overall.

Turnovers plagued the Chargers in the first half, but Lancaster Bible still went into halftime with a 31-21 lead after shooting 42.3% [11-of-26]. The Nittany Lions (6-10) cut into the lead early in the second half, cutting the deficit to 31-26, but the Chargers responded with a 15-7 run over the next seven minutes to take a 46-33 lead.

"Our defense really helped us get going offensively," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Marshall Tague said. "We've been shooting the ball efficiently and today guys stepped up when we needed them to."

The teams traded baskets on a few occasions late in the second half, but never threatened as the Chargers eventually opened up a 20-point lead with 1:35 to play.

"Every game is different and today we had to find a way to win," Tague said. "It wasn't the way we've won some of our other games, but the guys figured it out and played well for most of the game."

Dondre Perry added 13 points as well for Lancaster Bible, while CJ Dunston had 11 points and eight boards. The Chargers held a 41-31 edge in rebounds, including a 10-7 edge on the offensive glass, something Tague said may have been the difference.

"We got some big offensive rebounds at the right times today," Tague said. "It seemed like just when we needed to extend a possession and get a bucket, we were able to do that."

Friday marked the final non-conference game of the season for the Chargers who will now play nine straight NEAC games to finish out the regular season. Lancaster Bible is a perfect 7-0 in NEAC play thus far and will face one of its stiffest tests to date on Tuesday when they travel to Washington, D.C. to take on Gallaudet at 6 p.m.
