Chargers Cage Tigers

Box Score Lancaster Bible started slow on Friday night, but ended strong as they overcame a four-point halftime deficit to defeat SUNY Cobleskill, 69-53 at Horst Athletic Center and remain perfect in North Eastern Athletic Conference play. Katy Stover, Shanice Smith and Aubrey Folger combined for 56 of the Chargers' 69 points as Lancaster Bible won its seventh straight game.

The Fighting Tigers (5-13, 3-7 NEAC) led, 27-23 at the half as the Chargers shot 33.3% [11-of-33] in the opening 20 minutes. Lancaster Bible Head Coach said he wasn't upset by the shooting performance because he knew the Chargers were getting good looks.

"The shots just needed to go in," Helsel said. "We got good looks the whole first half. We missed a ton of layups early on and I knew if we got those same looks in the second half that we would be fine."

And fall they did as the Chargers shot 58.6% [17-of-29] in the second half and outscored SUNY Cobleskill, 46-26 en route to a 16 point victory.

"It was nice to say I told you so after the game," Helsel chuckled after the game. "We did a great job moving the ball in transition and were able to get more easy buckets."

Lancaster Bible (13-5, 10-0 NEAC) had 14 fast-break points compared to zero for the Fighting Tigers.

Another factor that helped Lancaster Bible in the second 20 minutes was Stover who scored 21 of her 23 points in the second half. After taking just three shots in the first half, Stover erupted in the second half as she shot 7-of-9 from the floor, many of which came on layups as she drove to the hoop.

"She usually looks to get going early, but didn't get very many looks in the first half," Helsel said. "She is programmed to score though and sure enough she found her way in the second half."

Folger had one of her better games of the season as well as she had 19 points, 14 rebounds, six assists, four steals and three blocks. Smith also added 14 points, 11 rebounds and four assists.

The Chargers extended their NEAC South Division lead to 3 1/2 games over St. Elizabeth as they won their 18th straight regular season NEAC game dating back to last season. Lancaster Bible has a tough week next week as they will take three long road trips during the week which begins on Monday when they travel to Clarks Summit, Pa. to face Baptist Bible at 7 p.m. The Chargers will follow that up with a trip to Morristown, N.J. on Wednesday to face St. Elizabeth and wrap-up the week on Friday when they battle Morrisville State in Morrisville, N.Y.
