The Lancaster Bible men's soccer team saw its three-game unbeaten streak come to an end on Saturday as Penn College downed the Chargers, 3-1 at Charger Field. The Wildcats' Tristan Smith scored twice to improve Penn College to 6-7-1 this season. The loss drops the Chargers to 7-5-1 overall and 3-2-1 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play.
Smith opened the scoring at the 27:12 mark as he converted a cross from Luke McFalls for his fifth goal of the year. His shot never actually hit the back of the net, rather it went off of the crossbar and straight down, but crossed the goal line. The score remained 1-0 through halftime, but Smith made it 2-0 just 4:24 in the second half as he took a cross and chested it into the back of the net. Chargers goalkeeper
Andrew Kofstad was unable to intercept the cross and Smith had a wide open goal.
Taylor Fegley's first goal of the year made it 3-0 just over six minutes later as he flicked a shot past Kofstad. Ronald Garcia had shot the ball from distance, but Fegley was able to get a head on it and catch everyone by surprise.
The Chargers took the game over after that goal, but were only able to muster one goal as junior
Josiah Groff converted a penalty kick at 78:15. The goal was Groff's third of the season and first since he scored twice against Bryn Athyn on September 9.
"I thought we worked hard today and played well a lot of the time, but Penn College showed why they can beat good teams and simply did a better job than we did today," Lancaster Bible Head Coach
Tom Ardt said. "They were well organized and their goalkeeper played unbelievably."
Lancaster Bible held a 27-12 advantage in shots and a 10-5 edge in corner kicks, but managed just one goal.
"I think we should have taken advantage of a few more of our chances and we need to execute better when we have the ball," Ardt said. "Mentally we need to fix a few things and hopefully today's game will help us learn that."
The Chargers are off until next Friday when they host SUNY Cobleskill at 4:15 p.m.Â
