Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Zach Freeman

Chargers Cage Fighting Tigers

The Lancaster Bible women's soccer team secured double digit victories for the fifth consecutive season on Friday as the Chargers defeated SUNY Cobleskill, 3-0 at Charger Field and improved to 10-4 overall and 7-2 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play.

Sophomore Alyssa Wesner opened the scoring just 2:38 into the contest as she headed in a corner kick off the foot of freshman Bethany Conklin. The goal was Wesner's fifth of the season and she now has 24 in her short career. The score remained 1-0 for much of the first half before freshman Rachel Kumher provided the Chargers with some insurance at the 41:06 mark as she scored off a feed from senior Monica Lambertson

The assist was the 29th of Lambertson's illustrious career and she is now the program's all-time leader in assists. The previous record of 28 was held by Ally Brown who set the mark in just three seasons with the Chargers.

Freshman Emily Beltran iced the game at the 67:09 mark with her 12th goal of the season. After receiving a pass from fellow freshman Abby Groff, Beltran touched the ball past the charging SUNY Cobleskill goalkeeper and scored into an empty net.

Junior goalkeeper Kaitlyn Scheuing made three saves for her ninth shutout of the season. Friday marked the third straight shutout for the Chargers, a feat they have accomplished three times this season.

The Chargers outshot the Fighting Tigers, (3-11, 3-6 NEAC), 19-6 and held a 3-1 edge in corner kicks.

Lancaster Bible returns to action on Saturday when they host SUNYIT at 1 p.m. The Chargers will be honoring their six seniors prior to the game.
