Lancaster Bible senior
Monica Lambertson used Senior Day to further etch her name into the Lancaster Bible record books as she had a goal and three assists in the Chargers 5-0 victory over SUNYIT at Charger Field. The five points gives Lambertson 142 for her illustrious career and ties her with Whitney Heise ('13) for the most in program history. Meanwhile, the Chargers posted their fourth straight shutout and 10th of the season as they improved to 11-4 overall and 8-2 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play.Â
Sophomore
Alyssa Wesner scored her second game-winning goals in as many days as she found the back of the net just 3:51 into the game off a feed from Lambertson. Despite the Chargers holding a 19-1 edge in shots in the first period, the score remained 1-0 through halftime.Â
Lambertson scored her 10th goal of the year 4:30 into the second frame to provide Lancaster Bible some insurance as she scored off of the right post.
Briana Fodor continued her stellar freshman campaign as she scored her eighth goal of the year eight minutes later to give the Chargers a 3-0 lead. Fellow freshman
Lydia Pepper scored her second career goal at the 70:22 mark off a pass from
Emily Beltran and senior
Shannon McNally capped her senior day with a goal at the 74:50 mark off a pass from Lambertson.
"Prior to our game yesterday, we challenged our players that we needed to start preparing for the postseason," Lancaster Bible Head Coach
Ken Craul said. "It was good to see the entire team step up and play with a higher level of play both days."
Craul was also pleased with the adjustments the Chargers made after halftime on Saturday.Â
"At halftime, we discussed taking advantage of our opportunities in the offensive end and knowing when the ball needs to be struck hard and when placement was more important than power," Craul said. "Three of our four second half goals were a result of placement versus power. It's always good to see our team make the needed adjustments on the field."
As for the seniors, the winngest group in program history with 59 wins over four season, Craul loved what he saw on Saturday.Â
"Today was a great way for our seniors to finish off their last home regular season game," Craul said. "All six seniors contributed to our team's success."
Lancaster Bible finished with a 30-3 advantage in shots and a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.Â
SUNYIT freshman Alexa Yousey played her first career game in goal for the Wildcats and made 12 saves.
The Chargers return to the field on Friday when they face Wells in Aurora, N.Y. at 2 p.m.
