The Lancaster Bible women's volleyball team wrapped up its season at the NCCAA Division II National Tournament on Friday night as the Chargers capped Pool Play with a pair of 3-0 losses to Ozark Christian and Ohio Christian. The Chargers finish the season with a record of 19-18. The 19 victories are the most in program history, breaking the old record of 17.
Against Ozark Christian, the Chargers led the opening set, 20-15, but couldn't close out the set and lost, 25-23. Ozark Christian cruised from there as they won the second set, 25-13 and the third, 25-20. Senior
Katie Coomber had a match-high 12 kills, while also adding 10 digs. Freshman
Myranda Kemrer had nine kills and 11 digs, while junior
Hannah Derr had 11 digs to go with her 31 assists.
In the nightcap, Ohio Christian won, 25-19, 25-13, 25-20 and improved to 27-16. (Note: Ohio Christian won its National Semifinal match on Saturday morning, but lost to Kentucky Christian in the NCCAA National Championship.)
Kemrer ended her impressive freshman campaign with 11 kills and five digs, while
Joanna Butala had three kills and five digs.Â
Coomber capped her career with six kills and five digs as she finished her career with 978 kills, 1,283 assists, 1,077 digs and 164 aces. Her 978 kills are the second most in program history and she fell 22 kills short of becoming the first player in program history to attain 1,000 kills, 1,000 assists and 1,000 digs. Coomber was a setter her first season and had just 36 kills, so as a sophomore, junior and senior, Coomber had 942 kills.Â
Juniors
Grace Scheuerman and
Hannah Derr will look to add to their impressive resumes next season as Scheuerman has 1,241 digs through three seasons, while Derr has 365 kills, 2,593 assists and 1,110 digs in her three years with Lancaster Bible. With her 501 digs this season, Scheuerman becomes just the third player in program history to have 500 or more digs in one season.
Earlier in the week, Coomber was named an NCCAA First Team All-American as she finished with 395 kills and 393 digs this season.Â
