Lancaster Bible Wins 10th Straight

Box Score Sophomores Aubrey Folger and Katy Stover combined for 43 of Lancaster Bible's 63 points as the Chargers defeated St. Elizabeth, 63-54 on Monday night and earned their 10th straight victory. The 10 straight wins ties a program record that Lancaster Bible established last season.

The Chargers led 28-22 at halftime as they held the Screaming Eagles to just 25 percent (9-of-36) shooting from the floor. Lancaster Bible (16-5, 12-0 NEAC) stretched its lead to 12 at 34-22 with 17:50 to play, but the Screaming Eagles battled back and cut the deficit to three at 39-36 with 13:31 left.

The Chargers answered back with a 10-2 run led by Folger and Stover who had all 10 points. St. Elizabeth once again went cold from the field as they went six minutes without scoring a point. A jumper by Ashley Pledger with 5:20 to play broke the cold streak, but by then Lancaster Bible led by 11.

St. Elizabeth (13-7, 8-4 NEAC) made one more run as a Kelly O'Dell's jumper with a minute to play made it 58-52 Chargers, but Folger came right down the floor, hit a jumper and was fouled. Her good free throw made it 61-52 and the Chargers won by the same margin.

"Great team effort tonight," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Doug Helsel said. "It's a tough place to play, but we overcame a few of our shortcomings and really played well as a team. Everyone contributed, from Shanice on the boards to Richelle Kane playing solid defense, just a nice win."

Junior Shanice Smith had just three points on Monday night, but grabbed 16 rebounds. Senior Brooklyn Wilson added eight points and four assists, while sophomore Christy Lorah had four points and three boards.

Lancaster Bible will look to set a new program record for consecutive wins on Wednesday when they host Gallaudet at 7 p.m. It's Play4Kay night as the Chargers will once again don pink shoe laces and headbands as they honor those who have battled breast cancer. Those in attendance are encouraged to wear pink as well.

The Chargers have four regular season games remaining as they host the Bison on Wednesday and Keuka on Friday before traveling to Penn St. Abington and SUNYIT next week to finish out the schedule.

With SUNYIT's victory on Monday over Keuka, it is becoming more apparent that next Friday's game between the Chargers and Wildcats in Utica, N.Y. will be for the top seed in next month's NEAC playoffs.
