Box Score It took all week, but Lancaster finally beat a storm. No, not a snowstorm (we are still winless in that category), but rather the Keuka Storm as Lancaster Bible hammered Keuka, 84-47 on Friday night at Horst Athletic Center. The fact it was Senior Night was even better as lone senior
Brian Cunningham scored his first three points of the season to help the Chargers to their third straight win and 14th of the season.
Lancaster Bible came out firing in the first half as the Chargers shot 57.7 percent [15-of-26] en route to a 48-26 lead. Junior
Naheer Mirza led the way as he was 4-of-5 from the floor, including two three pointers and a perfect 5-of-5 effort from the free throw line. The Chargers didn't let up in the second half as they poured it on, leading by as many as 39 in the second half.
Junior
Albert Suniga (14), sophomore
CJ Dunston (13) and sophomore
Jordan Mellinger (10) also joined Mirza in double figures. Junior
Trevor Marsh chipped in with eight points and six rebounds as well, while sophomore
Kurt Keltner added five points and three boards.
"I'm so happy for Brian," Lancaster Bible Head Coach
Marshall Tague said. "He's worked hard and I'm glad he scored some points tonight. The coaches and guys love him and it was a nice night."
Once again though, even though Lancaster Bible scored over 80 points, Tague pointed to the defense as the key to the Chargers' success.
"We did a good job defensively again, especially in the second half, holding them to 24 percent shooting," Tague said. "I thought we did well on the boards as well and made them take difficult shots."
Tyler Hixson had 17 points to lead the Storm. Hixson was 7-of-10 from the field, while the rest of the Storm were 9-of-40.
With the win, the Chargers clinch a berth in the NEAC playoffs, the first in program history. Lancaster Bible is in first place and holds a two-game lead over second-place Morrisville State with four games to play. One of those games will be Saturday at 1 p.m. when the Chargers host Wells. Lancaster Bible defeated Wells, 66-62 in Aurora, N.Y. earlier this season. The Express lost, 86-85 on Friday night to Penn St. Berks.
