Box Score Appearing in the NCCAA Division II National Tournament for the first time since the 2002-03 season, the Lancaster Bible women's basketball team put up a great fight, but came up just short against Arlington Baptist as the Chargers lost, 86-82.
Lancaster Bible fought back from an 11-point first half deficit to take a four point lead, 60-56 in the second half, but the Patriots' Morgan Hale seemingly couldn't miss big shots as she helped Arlington Baptist retake the lead late in the second half. Hale finished with a game-high 32 points and was 11-of-21 from the field, including 6-of-10 from beyond the arc.
The Chargers trailed 73-66 with just over two minutes to play and cut the deficit to one with under a minute to play, but couldn't complete the comeback.
"We played really hard and came back twice," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Doug Helsel said. "We just couldn't get one to fall at the end. Arlington hit their three-pointers and we didn't. That was the difference."
Sophomore
Katy Stover led the Chargers with 22 points, while junior
Sarah Heilenman had a season-high 19 points. Fellow junior
Shanice Smith added 17 points and 16 rebounds, while sophomore
Aubrey Folger had 17 points and 11 boards.
The Chargers (21-8) will take on North Central (Minn.) on Friday at 3 p.m. Lancaster Bible can do no better than fifth place now, but the two games will allow for the Chargers to end the season on a good note as they have lost two straight.
"We have to regroup and focus forward," Helsel said.
North Central lost to top-seeded Kentucky Christian on Thursday.
