Chargers Fall to Arlington Baptist in National Semifinals

Box Score The magic the Lancaster Bible men's basketball team has seemed to have all season long wasn't enough on Friday evening as the Chargers lost to Arlington Baptist, 70-65 in the NCCAA Division II National Semifinals in Circleville, Ohio.

The Patriots led by double digits for much of the first half before the Chargers closed the gap to eight, 38-30 just before halftime. Out of halftime however, Arlington Baptist extended its lead back to double digits and took its biggest lead of the game with 11:20 to go when a bucket put them up, 55-37.

Lancaster Bible (21-9) finally woke up and over the next 10 minutes used a 26-9 run to cut the deficit to one at 64-63 with 1:15 to play. After the teams traded baskets, Arlington led 66-65 and hit two of its free throws to extend the advantage to 68-65 with under 30 seconds to play.

The Chargers could not tie the game however and the Patriots wrapped up the victory by hitting two free throws.

Sophomore CJ Dunston had a game-high 17 points for the Chargers. Dunston added 11 rebounds and was 8-of-11 from the floor. In two games at the national tournament, Dunston is 14-of-22 from the field. Junior Naheer Mirza added 11 points, while fellow junior Albert Suniga had 10 points.

Dunston's 253 rebounds this season are the sixth most in program history for a single season. He will pass Jon Metzler (1985-86) with five more rebounds on Saturday for fifth all-time. David Green holds the Lancaster Bible record for most rebounds in a season with 571 during the 1987-88 season.

The Chargers will take on Grace Bible (Mich.) in Saturday's Third Place Game. Regardless of the outcome, the third or fourth place finish will be the highest finish for the men's basketball team in program history. Saturday's tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
