Lancaster Bible Takes Down North Central

Box Score The Lancaster Bible women's basketball team snapped its two-game losing streak on Friday as they defeated North Central (Minn.), 73-54 in the consolation bracket of the NCCAA Division II National Tournament in Joplin, Mo. The victory sends the Chargers into the Fifth Place Game where they will play either Manhattan Christian or Ohio Christian.

Friday's game was close early on, but the Chargers used a 19-2 run midway through the first half to open up a 31-13 lead. The Rams closed the deficit to 34-21 at halftime and cut it to eight, 38-30 with 15 minutes to play. Lancaster Bible didn't panic however and increased the lead back to 14, 50-36 with 10 minutes to play. The Rams never threatened again and the Chargers won by 19.

Sophomore Aubrey Folger had a team-high 27 points and 11 rebounds, while junior Shanice Smith had 13 points and nine boards.

"We worked the ball inside and were successful," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Doug Helsel said. "Their big got into some foul trouble and we were able to take advantage of that. We got great production from everyone though."

Sophomore Katy Stover added 16 points for the Chargers, while senior Brooklyn Wilson chipped in with eight points.

"I thought we were really good in transition in the first half and were able to get some easy buckets," Helsel said. "It was huge for us to make a run early in the game like that."

With her 27 points, Folger is now just 25 points away from the 1,000 point mark, while Wilson is just 21 points away. Wilson will have one more crack at reaching the mark as she and fellow senior Emily Martz will play their final game in a Lancaster Bible uniform on Saturday.
