Lancaster Bible Ends Historic Season With Victory

Box Score The Lancaster Bible men's basketball team rebounded from its NCCAA Division II National Semifinal loss on Friday by defeating Grace Bible (Mich.), 94-72 in the NCCAA Division II Third Place Game on Saturday in Circleville, Ohio.

Sophomore Jordan Mellinger had a game-high 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting to lead the Chargers on Saturday. Fellow sophomore CJ Dunston was also 8-of-11 from the field and had 17 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Junior Naheer Mirza added 16 points and six assists, while Albert Suniga had 15 points and four boards. Combined with his two years at Arizona Christian and this season, Suniga topped the 1,000-point mark for his career on Saturday.

Sophomores Kurt Keltner and Dondre Perry each had nine points and five rebounds for Lancaster Bible as the Chargers completed an epic turnaround from a year ago. Lancaster Bible was just 5-21 last season and ended this season with a 22-9 record.

The Chargers' 22 victories are a new program record and the third place finish at the NCCAA Division II National Tournament is also the highest finish for the Chargers in their five appearances.

Dunston averaged 16.7 points and 8.3 rebounds per game over the three games at the national tournament. He shot an amazing 22-of-33 from the field and for his efforts, he was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Dunston finishes the season with 474 points and 260 rebounds. His 474 points are tied for the 15th most in program history and are the most since Drew Karschner scored 613 points during the 2005-06 season. Dunston's 260 rebounds are the fifth most all-time and the most since Scott Long grabbed 286 boards during the 2002-03 season. Finally, Dunston's 40 blocked shots are the most since the statistic began being recorded during the 2002-03 season.
