Widener used an early goal and took advantage of two penalty kicks to defeat Lancaster Bible, 3-0 on Wednesday night in Chester, Pa.
Tori Remondelli scored all three of Widener's goals, the first of which came just 12:04 into the contest. Remondelli's initial shot was stopped by Lancaster Bible goalkeeper
Andrew Kofstad, but Remondelli got to the loose ball and put his next shot into the net to five the Pride a 1-0 lead. The score stayed that way through halftime and the Chargers even gained momentum early in the second half and took some control of the game.Â
However it was shortlived, as the Pride took advantage of the first of two Lancaster Bible miscues as the Chargers committed a foul in the box that led to Remondelli's second goal of the game thanks to his converted penalty kick chance. Just over 18 minutes later at the 70:48 mark, the Chargers committed another foul in the box and once again Remondelli made Lancaster Bible pay as he completed the hat trick and put the game away.
The game was delayed early in the second half as Lancaster Bible's
Darrell Goff was injured and had to be taken away in an ambulance. The delay lasted about 20 minutes and at the time of this article, Lancaster Bible Head Coach
Tom Ardt said he was still awaiting word from the hospital on Goff's condition.
"Losing Darrell was tough, not only on the field tonight because he was playing very well, but just his demeanor about everything," Ardt said. "He is a calming influence for the rest of the team and we certainly struggled after he went down. We can't have excuses though, Widener beat us tonight and we have to get better."
Ardt added that the team should have converted at the beginning of the second half and the game could have possibly been different.
"I think we all thought we were going to get one early in the second half, but unfortunately, we couldn't convert," Ardt said. "I think the game was closer than the score, but there are definitely things we can work on going forward."
Lancaster Bible goalkeeper
Andrew Kofstad made four saves in the loss, while junior
Josiah Groff led the squad with three shots on goal.
The Chargers (5-4) return to the field on Saturday when they host Baptist Bible at 3 p.m. Saturday is Lancaster Bible's Homecoming and the Lancaster Bible women's soccer team will host Cairn at 12:30 p.m. prior to the men's game.
