The Lancaster Bible men's soccer team rebounded from a midweek loss at Widener as they defeated Baptist Bible, 6-1 on Homecoming Saturday at Lancaster Bible College. Sophomore
Matt Nargi scored twice, while freshman
Ivan Correa added a goal and two assists for the Chargers who improved to 6-4 this season.
Scoreless over the first 25 minutes, the Chargers kicked it into high gear as Nargi opened the scoring at the 25:40 mark and three minutes later Correa dove and kicked in a rebound to make it 2-0. The score stayed that way through halftime, but freshman
Dylan Papiernik tapped in the easiest goal he may ever score after Correa deked out the Baptist Bible goalkeeper and went in on a 2-0 with Papiernik from 15 yards out.Â
Nargi's second goal of the game came off a great cross from Correa as his header made it 4-0. Correa dribbled down the right side of the field and as he reached the end line drove a quick cross towards the middle and Nargi appeared out of nowhere and dove to head the ball into the goal.
Senior Enoc Navarette's first goal of the season came via the penalty kick at the 69:06 mark and freshman
Arturo Ortega Marcos scored his first collegiate career to cap the Lancaster Bible scoring at the 74:30 mark. The Defenders (3-7) got a late goal from David VanBuren to break up the shutout.
"It was great to get everyone some minutes on Homecoming," Lancaster Bible Head Coach
Tom Ardt said. "I thought we were dangerous from the first minute and played well in all three sections of the field."
The Chargers return to the field on Tuesday when they face North Eastern Athletic Conference powerhouse Penn St. Abington in Abington, Pa. Ardt said it is one of the biggest games of the year for Lancaster Bible.
"It is one of the biggest matches we have this season," Ardt said. "They are big and have speed and are just a very good team. I expect us to be ready and we'll see what happens."
Tuesday's game is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
Notes:-This was the fourth straight for the Chargers against the Defenders.
-Baptist Bible still leads the all-time series, 38-14.
