Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Zach Freeman

Chargers Start Road Trip with a Win

The Lancaster Bible women's basketball team opened its five-game road trip with a victory on Friday night as the Chargers defeated Keuka, 54-47 in Keuka Park, N.Y. Juniors Aubrey Folger and Katy Stover each had 17 points to lead Lancaster Bible to its fourth straight victory.

Despite shooting just 17-of-56 (30.4 percent) from the field, the Chargers team defense pressured Keuka all game long and caused the Wolfpack to commit 20 turnovers. Though Lancaster Bible didn't shoot well from the floor, the Chargers were 13-of-16 from the free throw line and grabbed 16 offensive rebounds.

In addition to her 17 points, Folger also had 12 rebounds and four steals. Folger, along with Stover and Kirsten Webster, played all 40 minutes as the Chargers were without the services of two players and thus only dressed seven on Friday night. Webster finished with 11 points and five rebounds and Shanice Smith (who played 38 minutes) had nine points, 10 rebounds and seven assists.

"It was an ugly win, but we will take it, especially on the road," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Rachel Steinbarger said. "Kirsten was excellent tonight and even though she played all 40 minutes, she played tough the whole time and brought fire and energy that we needed."

It was the second straight game and fourth time this season the Chargers held their opponent below 50 points.

"We played very well defensively and to hold a team under 50 at their place is great," Steinbarger said. "We have a quick turnaround to tomorrow's game, but I expect the defense to play just as well on Saturday."

Saturday's game will be in Aurora, N.Y. as the Chargers take on Wells at 12 p.m. It marks the first time since last season's North Eastern Athletic Conference Final that the Express and Chargers will meet. Wells upset Lancaster Bible in that game and advanced to its first-ever NCAA Division III Tournament.

Lancaster Bible (9-3, 7-1 NEAC) will then play St. Elizabeth, Wilson and Gallaudet next week to conclude the five-game road trip.

Notes:
-Lancaster Bible is now 5-1 all-time against Keuka.

-Folger now has 10 double-doubles this season.
