During the first half of Saturday's game at Wells, the Lancaster Bible women's basketball team looked like a team who had played just 16 hours before. The Chargers turned the ball over 17 times in the first half and went into halftime tied at 22-22 with the Express. Lancaster Bible found its way in the second half however and earned a tough 57-47 victory in Aurora, N.Y.Â
Shanice Smith had a vintage Smith game as she scored 18 points and pulled down 17 rebounds. Smith also had three steals as she played 39 minutes on Saturday after playing 38 on Friday night at Keuka.
Katy Stover added 17 points, while
Kirsten Webster had 14 points, four rebounds and three steals.
Lancaster Bible opened the second half on a 12-6 run over the first five minutes and took a 34-28 lead thanks to a Smith layup with 15:01 to play. After two free throws from Wells cut the deficit to four, Stover hit back-to-back 3-pointers to give the Chargers a 40-30 lead with 12:05 remaining.Â
Wells slowly began chipping away at the deficit and finally cut it to one, 46-45, on a layup by Anita Babb with 5:36 to play. Eight straight points from the Chargers over the next three minutes restored Lancaster Bible's nine-point lead at 54-45. Lancaster Bible held Wells to just two points over the final 5:36 and Saturday marked the sixth time this season the Chargers have held an opponent under 50 points.Â
Lancaster Bible held a 39-21 rebounding edge and forced 18 Wells turnovers.
Aubrey Folger had eight points and nine rebounds, while
Christy Lorah chipped in with two assists.
The Chargers will continue their road trip on Tuesday when Lancaster Bible takes on St. Elizabeth at 7 p.m. in Morristown, N.J.
