Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Zach Freeman

Chargers Blank Bison

The Lancaster Bible women's soccer team defeated Gallaudet, 2-0 on Saturday in Washington, D.C. to complete a perfect week that saw the Chargers go 3-0 against North Eastern Athletic Conference opponents. After three victories this week, the Chargers are 7-5 overall and 6-1 in NEAC play.

How it Happened: For the second straight day, the Chargers dominated play for 90 minutes as Lancaster Bible held almost all of the possession and jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead. The early lead was provided by freshman Maddie Dionne who scored the first collegiate goal of her career thanks to a 1-on-1 from the top of the box that she deposited into the back of the net. Dionne's goal was just one of 11 shots the Chargers took in the first half, while the Bison took none.

The second half featured much of the same as the Chargers had 15 shots to Gallaudet's one. The only problem for the Chargers was the fact that they couldn't convert any of their scoring chances and the game remained 1-0. Lancaster Bible had 16 corner kicks over the 90 minutes, but did not score once. Junior Kirsten Webster finally provided the insurance goal the Chargers so desperately wanted with just over 10 minutes remaining.

By the Numbers: Dionne had assisted on two goals this season, but had not scored prior to Saturday...Webster's goal was her ninth of the season and her fifth in the past four games...Kaitlyn Scheuing made just one save for her third shutout of the season and 21st of her career...Over the past two games, Lancaster Bible has taken 62 shots, 43 of which were on goal.

The Coach Says: "We played very well today," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Leah Sipe said. "Our passing of the ball and movement off the ball was some of the best I've seen all season long. The frustrating part for everyone was having 16 corners and not scoring off any of them. We absolutely need to find a way to score off of those pieces as we get further into the season."

Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 7-1 all-time against Gallaudet...Scheuing needs five more shutouts to tie Emily Lloyd for the most shutouts in program history...The Chargers are 3-1 on the road this season and just 4-4 at home.

Up Next: Lancaster Bible returns to action on Tuesday when the Chargers host non-conference foe Penn St. Harrisburg at 3:30 p.m.
