Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Zach Freeman

Penn St. Abington Downs Lancaster Bible

The Lancaster Bible women's soccer team fell short in Thursday's battle of two of the top teams in the North Eastern Athletic Conference as the Chargers dropped a 2-0 decision to Penn St. Berks at Charger Field. The loss drops the Chargers back to the .500 mark at 7-7 overall, while they are still 6-2 in conference play. Penn St. Abington improves to 9-4 overall and 7-1 in NEAC action.

How it Happened: Penn St. Abington wasted little time as the Nittany Lions scored 2:32 into the game thanks to Jessica Domansky's first goal of the season. Domansky controlled a cross from Michelle Latronica that found its way through a crowd and Domansky scored into basically an empty net to give Penn St. Abington a quick 1-0 advantage. For the final 42:28 of the first half, the teams traded possession, but manufactured very few scoring chances and played much of the game in the midfield. Lancaster Bible junior Kirsten Webster had the Chargers' best chance of the half as she worked her way into the middle of the field and found herself behind the defense with the ball. As she shot the ball around the charging goalkeeper, the ball went just to the left of the goal and the game remained, 1-0.

Both teams wanted to score the first goal of the second half and both teams had chances through the first 15 minutes, but the respective goalkeepers were up to the task as each made a save to keep the score the same. Lancaster Bible's chances became fewer and fewer as the half went on and Penn St. Abington finally got the insurance goal they wanted at the 76:23 mark when Latronica's initial shot was saved by Scheuing, but the rebound went right to Haley Keller who scored into a wide open net to double the Nittany Lions' lead.

By the Numbers: Penn St. Abington outshot the Chargers, 10-5 and just three of Lancaster Bible's five shots were on goal...Scheuing finished with five saves for the Chargers, while Webster led the team with two shots.
