Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Zach Freeman

Nationally Ranked Blue Jays Clip Chargers, 2-1

The Lancaster Bible men's soccer team faced its toughest challenge of the season on Saturday as the Chargers took on Lancaster County neighbor and 16th ranked Elizabethtown and though the Blue Jays prevailed, 2-1, the Chargers played well and almost ruined Elizabethtown's Homecoming festivities. The loss snaps Lancaster Bible's six-game winning streak and drops the Chargers to 9-3-3 this season.

How it Happened: After a scoreless first half in which only seven shots were taken, the Blue Jays controlled began to control play midway through the second half as they fired 21 shots at the goal in the second 45 minutes. Lancaster Bible was able to fend off the Blue Jays until the 66:50 mark when Sam Feehrer controlled a rebound and fired a shot just past a diving Thiago Naque to give Elizabethtown a 1-0 lead. The Blue Jays added another goal just 1:42 later as Martin Fevre bent his corner kick that surprised everyone and caused Naque to try and make a save off of the direct kick, but Naque just missed clearing the ball and the Chargers deficit was two.

Lancaster Bible responded just over eight minutes later as sophomore Arturo Ortega Marcos scored his first goal of the season on blast that found the back of the net off a pass from senior Josiah Groff. Lancaster Bible pushed for the equalizer, but could not tie the score in the final minutes as Elizabethtown improved to 13-1-1 this season.

The Coach Says: "We competed hard the entire game, even when we got down, 2-0," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Tom Ardt said. "The goal we scored was great execution and a huge lift for us. Elizabethtown's high pressure in the second half was hard to break and they were solid front to back. We defended well for the most part and made it difficult for them to penetrate. Some of our guys really stepped up and we are not satisfied with the loss, but we can acknowledge a solid effort."
