Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Zach Freeman

Road Warriors

The Lancaster Bible men's soccer team won its second straight game and for the eighth time in nine tries on Saturday as the Chargers downed Penn College, 3-1 in Williamsport, Pa. The Chargers are now 11-3-3 overall and 7-2-1 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play.

How it Happened: Lancaster Bible put its foot on the gas from the opening whistle as the Chargers had two corner kicks and three shots in the first eight minutes of the game. The Chargers continued to control the pace of the game and were rewarded for their efforts at 20:00 when senior Josiah Groff took a pass from Eric Bailey and scored his 13th goal of the season. Just 6:35 later, Bailey doubled the Chargers' lead as he netted his second goal of the season off a feed from freshman Jared Jordan.

The teams traded chances to end the first half, but the Chargers remained in front, 2-0. Lancaster Bible picked up right where it left off in the second half as the Chargers fired three shots and had a corner kick in the first 10 minutes. A corner kick chance with 15:30 to play led to a goal for the Wildcats as Randy Vance collected the ball and scored his fourth of the season.

Lancaster Bible rebounded from the goal and dominated the final 15 minutes as sophomore Edward Bills put the game away with 1:42 to play with his eighth goal of the year.

By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible outshot Penn College, 21-8, including an 11-3 edge in shots on goal...Lancaster Bible had 11 corner kicks, while Penn College had just one...Freshman Brendon Dooley tallied the assist on Bills' goal...Thiago Naque made two saves for his second victory of the season...Bills and Bailey each took five shots.

The Coach Says: "We played really well in the first half," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Tom Ardt said. "We had good movement and possessed the ball really well. Being up 2-0 at halftime, I think we may have relaxed a bit in the second half. We still created chances offensively, but we could have played better in the second half. All three of the goals were quality finishes by the goal scorers."
