Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Zach Freeman

Nittany Lions' Offensive Firepower Too Much for Chargers

The Lancaster Bible women's soccer team held the high-scoring Penn St. Berks offense to just one goal in the first half, but the Nittany Lions showed why they haven't lost a North Eastern Athletic Conference game in almost four years as they scored five second half goals en route to a 6-2 win over Lancaster Bible. The Chargers are now 4-5 overall and 3-1 in NEAC play, while the Nittany Lions improved to 9-1-2 overall and 7-0 in conference action.

How it Happened: Penn St. Berks entered Saturday's game having scored 59 goals in its first 11 games, but the Chargers held the Nittany Lions to just one goal in the first half as Lizzie Mummau scored 13:50 into the contest. Though the Nittany Lions controlled much of the play, Lancaster Bible goalkeeper Kaitlyn Scheuing made several remarkable saves to keep the game a 1-0 contest. Penn St. Berks flexed its offensive muscles midway through the second half however as the Nittany Lions scored three times in less than 11 minutes to grab a 4-0 lead with 18 minutes to play.

Lancaster Bible junior Kirsten Webster scored 1:15 after Kaylie Smucker made it 4-0 to cut the deficit to 4-1, but Berks answered right back with two more goals to seal the win. Webster scored again with 1:08 to play, but it was not enough as the Chargers lost their first NEAC contest of the season.

By the Numbers: Webster's goals were her fifth and sixth goals of the season...Caitlin Golden had a hat trick for Penn St. Berks and she now has 16 goals this season which is tops in the NEAC...Scheuing finished with 10 saves...Sophomore Rachel Kumher assisted on Webster's first goal...Penn St. Berks outshot the Chargers, 30-10 and held an 8-4 edge in corner kicks.
