Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Zach Freeman

Chargers Cage 'Cats

The Lancaster Bible women's soccer team returned to the win column on Tuesday as the Chargers scored early in each half and posted a 3-1 victory over Cazenovia at Charger Field. The Chargers improve to 5-5 overall and 4-1 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play, while the Wildcats are now 4-6-1 overall and 2-5 in conference action.

How it Happened: The Chargers got on the board just 5:51 into the game as junior Kirsten Webster took a beautiful pass from sophomore Raegan Horst and deposited the ball into the back of the net for her seventh goal of the season. Lancaster Bible continued to dominate in the first half, but could not get a second goal and entered halftime with a 1-0 lead. The Chargers outshot the Wildcats, 10-1 in the first half and held a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.

The second half began just like the first as Lancaster Bible scored early thanks to Abi Brady who netted her first collegiate goal on a pass from freshman Michaela Ragsdale. Ragsdale crossed the ball into the box and Brady was there to head the ball past the Cazenovia goalkeeper and double the Chargers' lead just 4:34 into the second half.

Cazenovia began to have a few more chances during the late stages of the second half and were rewarded for their efforts as the Chargers committed a foul in the box that led to a penalty kick goal by Ciera Sportello with 7:46 to play. With the Wildcats pressing for the equalizer, Webster tracked down a long pass from Maddie Dionne and scored into the right-hand side of the net for her eighth goal of the season and put the game away.

By the Numbers: Webster's eight goals this season are a new career high...Webster scored seven goals during the 2013 season in 20 games and already has eight in 10 games this season, including four goals in the past two games...Lancaster Bible goalkeeper Kaitlyn Scheuing made eight saves for her 31st career win...For the game, Lancaster Bible outshot the Wildcats, 22-5 and had nine corner kicks to Cazenovia's three.

The Coach Says: "We did a great job scoring early in each half and I thought we were really ready to play those first couple of minutes of each half," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Leah Sipe said. "On the flip side, I thought we left a lot of chances on the field and we need to be able to convert the scoring chances we get. We are going to play teams where we may only get a few chances to score each game and we need to be able to take advantage of those. I liked the urgency we played with after Cazenovia scored and would love to see us play with that type of energy throughout the entire game."

Information Hodge Podge: The Chargers are now 4-1 all-time against Cazenovia and have won the last two matchups...Through five games against Cazenovia, the Chargers have outscored the Wildcats, 18-5...Tuesday marked the end of a six-game homestand for the Chargers and the team went 4-2.

Up Next: Lancaster Bible will play its first road game since Sept. 15 on Friday when the Chargers travel to Chambersburg, Pa. to take on Wilson at 4 p.m...The Chargers will then face Gallaudet in the nation's capital on Saturday at 2 p.m.
