Chargers Top Tigers

The Lancaster Bible men's soccer team opened its final weekend of the regular season with a 4-0 victory over SUNY Cobleskill on Friday afternoon. The Chargers are 12-4-3 overall and 8-2-1 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play. Lancaster Bible had already clinched a playoff spot prior to the game, and Friday's win could help the Chargers secure a spot in the NEAC Semifinals. The NEAC Playoff scenarios are further down the page.

How it Happened: The Chargers scored just 5:27 into the game as freshman Eric Bailey netted his third goal of the season off a pass from Josiah Groff. Lancaster Bible controlled play throughout the first half and converted the first of two penalty kicks at 27:30 when Arturo Ortega Marcos scored to make it 2-0.

After holding their 2-0 lead through halftime, Nathan Recalo scored his second goal of the season 16 minutes into the second half as he beat the SUNY Cobleskill goalkeeper in the box. Fellow senior Alex Vocature put the game away at 79:22 when he scored on a penalty kick for his first goal of the year.

By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible outshot the Fighting Tigers, 27-7, including 21-6 in shots on goal...The Chargers also had a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks...SUNY Cobleskill goalkeepers Tanner Puff and Wesley Rottkamp combined to make 17 saves, while Vann Sutphin and Denis Tarasov combined for six saves for the Chargers...14 different Lancaster Bible players recorded a shot, including Sam Kim, Ben Noel and Jared Steiner.

The Coach Says: "We had a lot of the possession all day, especially in the second half and didn't let them have many chances," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Tom Ardt said. "We attacked well as a group in the second half which was nice to see heading into a big game on Saturday at SUNY Poly."

Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 5-0 all-time against SUNY Cobleskill...The Chargers are 7-2-1 on the road this season.

NEAC Playoff Scenarios: Should Lancaster Bible defeat SUNY Poly and Morrisville State defeat Keuka, the Chargers will be the second seed in playoffs...Should the Chargers finish in third or fourth place, they will host a NEAC Quarterfinal contest on Wednesday at Charger Field...If Lancaster Bible is the fifth seed, they will travel on Wednesday for a NEAC Quarterfinal...NEAC Standings page
