Chargers Thump Tigers

The Lancaster Bible women's soccer team moved back over the .500 mark on Friday with an 8-0 victory over SUNY Cobleskill in Cobleskill, N.Y. The victory improves the Chargers to 9-8-1 overall and 8-2-1 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play. The Chargers have already clinched a spot in the NEAC Playoffs which start next week, but the team's seeding is still to be determined.

How it Happened: Lancaster Bible scored four times in each half, including twice in the first 12 minutes of the game as Alyssa Wesner and Kirsten Webster scored 3:15 apart to give the Chargers a quick 2-0 lead. Lancaster Bible maintained the 2-0 edge throughout the first half until Marisa Jo Abts scored her third goal of the year at the 42:14 mark to make it 3-0. Just 1:44 later, senior Christy Lorah netted her first goal of the season as she cleaned up a rebound in front to give the Chargers a 4-0 lead.

The second half started the same way the first half did as the Chargers scored two early goals to keep the momentum. Wesner completed her second hat trick in three games as she scored twice 1:04 apart to give the Chargers a 6-0 advantage. The rout was officially on 1:26 later when Webster scored her second of the game to give the Chargers a 7-0 lead. Freshman Kathryn McBratney capped the scoring at the 78:02 mark with her first collegiate goal. 

By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible outshot the Fighting Tigers, 31-5, including 27-3 in shots on goal...The Chargers also held an 8-1 edge in corner kicks...Webster's 13 goals lead the team and she, Raegan Horst, Brooke Cullum and Abts all added assists on Friday...Goalkeeper Kaitlyn Scheuing made three saves for her fourth shutout of the season and the 22nd of her career.

Information Hodge Podge: Wesner's hat trick is the fourth of her career, which ties her for the most in program history...Whitney Heise and Monica Lambertson also had four hat tricks during their collegiate careers...Lancaster Bible is now 5-0 all-time against SUNY Cobleskill.

Up Next: Lancaster Bible wraps up its regular season on Saturday at SUNY Polytechnic...Game time is set for 3 p.m. The outcome of the game, as well as two other games will determine the final playoff seeding for next week's NEAC Playoffs.
