Gophers Hold Off Chargers

The Lancaster Bible women's volleyball team saw its five-match winning streak come to an end on Wednesday night as Goucher defeated the Chargers, 3-1 in Baltimore, Md. The Chargers lost, 25-20, 25-23, 22-25, 25-22 and are now 10-9 this season.

How it Happened: Lancaster Bible lost the first two sets as both were close, but the Gophers were able to pull away at the end. Down 18-13 in the second set, the Chargers fought back to tie the set at 20-20, but Goucher re-took the lead at 21-20 and held a one point lead until 24-23 when they were able to close out the set on a kill. The Chargers fought back and won the third set, but could not get the fourth and lost for the first time since Sept. 26.

By the Numbers: Sophomore Lauren Grimm led the Chargers with a career-high 14 kills, while freshman Hannah Gipe had a match-high 29 digs...The 29 digs are tied for the fifth-most in program history and are the most in a single match since Grace Scheuerman had 34 at Mount Aloysius on Sept. 25, 2014...On Wednesday, Scheuerman added 25 digs of her own, while sophomore Myranda Kemrer had nine kills and 18 digs...Alyssa Bowen added nine more kills and senior Hannah Derr had three kills to go with 19 digs and 37 assists.

Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible had 118 digs on Wednesday night, the second-most in program history...The record is 136 which was set on Nov. 4, 2011 in the NEAC Quarterfinals against Keuka...Senior Grace Scheuerman had four aces on Wednesday and now has 144 in her four-year career...Her 144 aces are tied for the sixth-most in program history.

Up Next: Lancaster Bible will travel to Winchester, Va. on Saturday to take on Shenandoah and Mount Aloysius in a tri-match...The Chargers will face the host Hornets at 11 a.m. and the Mounties at 1 p.m.
