It's been one year since the Lancaster Bible men's basketball team lost to Morrisville State in the North Eastern Athletic Conference Final. One year since they watched the Mustangs celebrate in the middle of the court. One year since the Chargers watched someone else cut down a net in their gym.
Â
Every day since that first Sunday in March a year ago has been about getting back to this weekend for the Chargers and getting a chance to defend their own floor. After a historical 23-2 regular season and a 17-1 mark in NEAC play, Lancaster Bible will take its first steps towards redemption on Saturday when the Chargers host Keuka in the NEAC Semifinals.
Â
Like they have done all season long, the Chargers are not looking past any opponent and know that in order to play on Sunday, they must win on Saturday.
Â
"We've taken it one game at a time all season long," Lancaster Bible Head Coach
Marshall Tague said. "The stakes are higher, but this weekend is just like a regular season weekend. We are preparing to play a back-to-back, but we know we can't overlook our first opponent."
Â
A large advantage for the Chargers on Saturday will be the home crowd in its favor, something Lancaster Bible has talked about all season long.
Â
"We have the best fans in the conference and they've shown that all season long," Tague said. "The guys feed off the energy and appreciate all of the support that's given to them."
Â
In addition to the crowd and namely the Red Sea student section, the other advantage the Chargers have is they will get to go through their normal routine on Saturday, rather than worrying about travel and lodging.
Â
"Home court advantage is important because we don't have to ride on a bus and we get to sleep in our own beds," Tague said. "The guys will get to go through their normal routine."
Â
Tague said having hosted the Final Four last season and making a NEAC Final appearance will be helpful for preparation for the weekend, but doesn't think that experience will translate into the game as much.
"The experience helps in how we prepare and we think preparation is a big deal, but once the game starts on Saturday, it's time to play and experience only plays a small part."
Â
Lancaster Bible hosts Keuka at 2 p.m. on Saturday, while the second semifinal, which features SUNY Cobleskill taking on Penn St. Abington, will begin at 4 p.m. Both games will be available via live video and can be seen here –
