Box Score The Lancaster Bible men's basketball team is headed back to the NCCAA Div. II Final Four after defeating Manhattan Christian, 87-64 in Thursday's NCCAA Div. II Quarterfinal in Circleville, Ohio. The victory improves the Charges to 26-3 this season and Lancaster Bible will face 3rd-seeded Grace Bible in Friday's NCCAA Div. II Semifinals at 5:30 p.m.Â
The first five or six minutes of the game featured the teams trying to figure each other out as the teams had not played a similar opponent all season long and thus had really no way of knowing how the other played. After both teams settled in, the Chargers held a five-point lead for much of the half before Manhattan Christian closed the gap to a single possession during the final possessions of the first half.Â
With Lancaster Bible leading by four, 38-34, the Chargers held the ball for the half's final shot and after everyone had seemingly touched the ball,
Naheer Mirza got open in the corner and drained a 3-pointer as time expired to give the Chargers a 41-34 halftime lead.
Lancaster Bible controlled every minute of the second half as the 2nd-seeded Chargers opened the half on a 8-0 run to take a 49-34 lead just three minutes into the second half. The lead continued to grow as the Chargers began to take over in transition, as well as inside offensively, and at the same time began forcing Manhattan Christian to take poor shots.
Junior
Dondre Perry finished with 17 points for the Chargers and added six rebounds, while fellow junior
CJ Dunston had 12 points and seven rebounds. Dunston's first two points of the game gave him 1,000 for his career as he became the 21st player in program history to eclipse the 1,000-point mark. Mirza added 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting, as well as four assists.
Lancaster Bible shot 51 percent from the floor, including 50 percent (8-of-16) from beyond the arc. The Chargers controlled the boards once again this season as they out-rebounded the Thunder, 36-18.Â
The Chargers' opponent on Friday, Grace Bible, defeated Valley Forge, 82-62 in Thursday's second NCCAA Div. II Quarterfinal. Lancaster Bible beat the Tigers in last season's NCCAA Div. II Third Place Game, 92-74.
