The Lancaster Bible women's lacrosse team, which has still not practiced outdoors this season, played another strong game on Thursday, albeit in a loss, as the Chargers fell to Elizabethtown, 20-9 in Elizabethtown, Pa. The loss drops the Chargers to 0-2 this season, while the Blue Jays improved to 3-2.Â
Elizabethtown jumped out to a quick lead as the Blue Jays scored seven goals in the first 10 minutes of the contest. Lancaster Bible settled down after the 10-minute scoring barrage and played well for the final 30 minutes of the game. Freshman
Myranda Kemrer scored both of Lancaster Bible's first half goals as the Chargers trailed, 13-2 at the break.
The Chargers surprised everyone as they scored the first six goals of the second half and closed the gap to 13-8 with 17:10 to play. It was the
Alyssa Wesner show for Lancaster Bible in the second half as the sophomore scored four of the six goals early in the half, while Kemrer and
Joanna Shughart scored the other goals for the Chargers.Â
Elizabethtown tallied the next two goals to increase its lead back to 15-8. Kemrer scored her fourth of the game with 14:36 to play to trim the deficit to 15-9, but the Blue Jays defense tightened up and the Chargers were held off of the scoreboard the rest of the way.
Wesner finished with four goals and two assists, while Kemrer had four goals and a team-high five ground balls. Kemrer also added nine draw controls and caused three turnovers. In addition to her goal, Shughart also had three ground balls.Â
Elizabethtown was led by Katie Thompson who had three goals and five assists.
Lancaster Bible is off for a week before it opens North Eastern Athletic Conference play next Friday at Morrisville State at 4 p.m.
