After splitting its first two games of the season on Monday, the Lancaster Bible softball team lost both its games on Tuesday as the Chargers lost to Clarkson, 2-1 and Scranton, 11-3 in Clermont, Fla. The losses drop the Chargers to 1-3 this season. Lancaster Bible will have Wednesday off before returning to the field on Thursday to face UMass-Boston at 11 a.m. and Wocester State at 1 p.m. Below is a quick recap of Tuesday's games.
Clarkson 2, Lancaster Bible 1Clarkson scored two runs in the top of the first and made them stand up as the Chargers fell to 1-2 this season. Lancaster Bible cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the second as
Courtney Koser hit her first home run of the season. Golden Knights' pitcher Katie Pelton settled down after that as she allowed just two base runners to reach second base the rest of the way and struck out 11 Lancaster Bible hitters.
The Chargers also got a great pitching performance as
Kelsey Collins allowed just five hits and struck out seven as she pitched well for the second straight day. In addition to Koser,
Ali Morton,
Julia D'Arrigo and
Richelle Kane also had hits for the Chargers.Â
Scranton 11, Lancaster Bible 3 -- 5 InningsThe Royals scored in every inning but the fourth as they pushed five runs across the plate in the second and four more in the fifth to send the Chargers to their first five-inning loss of the season. Though Scranton had 11 hits, they were also aided by a season-high seven errors from Lancaster Bible.Â
The Chargers also scored their runs due to two errors from Scranton as Lancaster Bible scored three times in the top of the fourth to trim its deficit to 7-3. Lancaster Bible managed just two hits as Morton and D'Arrigo each went 1-for-3, while Koser, Collins and
Kristen Hartline scored runs for the Chargers.
