In a game that featured several scoring runs by each team, it was Wells who had the final run as the Express held off Lancaster Bible, 16-12 on Saturday in Lancaster, Pa. The Chargers fall to 0-7 overall and 0-4 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play, while the Express improve to 2-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
It was the
Alyssa Wesner show in the first half as she scored eight times for the Chargers, including four of the first five goals over the opening 3:22. In those first three minutes, the Chargers controlled every aspect of the game as they took a quick 5-0 lead thanks to four goals from Wesner and another from freshman
Myranda Kemrer.
Wells answered with three straight goals of its own as Lexie Roberson scored twice, while Alaina Kelahan added the other. Kemrer and Wesner scored back-to-back goals for Lancaster Bible to increase the lead back to 7-3, but the Express answered again and scored four of the next five goals in the game as Lancaster Bible led 8-7 with 9:22 to play in the opening half.

Wesner added her seventh and eighth goals of the half in a 19-second span to restore Lancaster Bible's three-goal lead with 6:18 to play in the first half. Wells was persistent and controlled play in the final minutes of the half as the Express tied the game at 10-10 with 17 seconds to play on a goal from Shianne Stokes. Perhaps the biggest play of the half came with three seconds remaining as Wesner picked up her second yellow card of the game and effectively ended her day.
The Chargers held their own in the second half without their top scorer as Kemrer scored 2:09 into the half to give Lancaster Bible an 11-10 advantage. The lead stood until Stokes tied the contest at 11-11 with 18:58 to play.
Joanna Shughart's second goal of the season gave Lancaster Bible the lead back just 23 seconds later and once again it stood for several minutes before Marina Fargnoli tied the game at 12-12 with 12:29 remaining.Â
From there, Wells took possession of the game and scored the final four goals, three of them coming in a 34-second span.
