After coming oh so close to winning on Saturday afternoon, the Lancaster Bible women's lacrosse team finally did crack the win column on Monday as the Chargers defeated Waynesburg, 16-10 in Waynesburg, Pa. The victory improves the Chargers to 1-7 this season, while the Yellow Jackets fell to 3-4.Â
The game was a back-and-forth affair in the first half as neither team could gain control of the game. Lancaster Bible took two separate three-goal leads, but wound up leading 8-6 at the half. Sophomore
Alyssa Wesner scored four times in the first half after scoring eight times in the first half of Saturday's game against Wells. Freshman
Myranda Kemrer had three goals in the opening half, while sophomore
Joanna Shughart added the other Lancaster Bible goal.
Waynesburg opened the second half with two goals in the first 4:02 as the Yellow Jackets tied the game at 8-8 with 25:58 to play. From there however, Lancaster Bible scored the game's next eight goals over a 15:27 period as the Chargers took over every aspect of the game. Wesner had four goals during the scoring run, while Kemrer added three more as well. Junior
Emily Seyler scored her first collegiate goal to cap the scoring run as the 16 goals scored are the most since the Chargers scored 16 on April 26, 2013 in a 16-7 win over Wilson.
Wesner finished with eight goals, two assists and 15 ground balls, while Kemrer had six goals, two assists and a program-record 18 ground balls.
Mandi Betts had the first two assists of her collegiate career, while Shughart added four ground balls to go along with her one goal.
Goalkeeper
Bethany Dickerson made 13 saves for her first collegiate victory as the Chargers outshot the Yellow Jackets, 36-34. Lancaster Bible also held a 51-41 advantage in ground balls, and a 13-10 edge in draw controls.
Lancaster Bible will look to make it two straight on Wednesday as the Chargers host Potomac State (W. Va.) at 4 p.m.
Notes:-The 51 ground balls by Lancaster Bible is also a new program record that shatters the previous mark of 38 which was set on April 27, 2011 against Penn St. Abington.Â
