Two days after winning its first game of the season, the Lancaster Bible women's lacrosse team let one slip away on Wednesday as the Chargers lost an early 7-2 lead en route to a 21-15 defeat at the hands of Potomac State (W. Va.) at Charger Field. Because Potomac State is a junior college, per NCAA rules, the game and its statistics do not count for NCAA-member Lancaster Bible.Â
Goals by sophomores
Alyssa Wesner and
Joanna Shughart in the first 2:28 of play gave Lancaster Bible an early 2-0 lead. After a goal by Potomac State, the Chargers scored four straight times, three from the stick of freshman
Myranda Kemrer, as Lancaster Bible took a 6-1 advantage. Wesner's third of the game with 17:31 to play in the first half gave the Chargers a 7-2 lead, but it was all Potomac State from there as the Catamounts scored seven straight goals and took a 9-7 lead on a goal by Dusti McClemens with 2:31 to play in the first half.
Kemrer's fourth goal of the game with one second left in the half cut the deficit to 9-8 at halftime, but the Catamounts scored six of the first seven goals of the second half and took a 15-9 lead with 20:08 to play on a goal by Amanda Thompson.
Lancaster Bible tried to get back into the game and
Sierra Guenst's first collegiate goal with 18:48 to play cut the Catamount lead to 16-11, but once again Potomac State had an answer and scored three straight goals to make ti 19-11 with 14:10 to play. Wesner scored three more late goals, while Kemrer added another, but it was not enough as the Chargers fell to 0-3 at home this season.
Wesner finished with seven goals, while Kemrer added six goals and an assist.
Bethany Dickerson made seven saves in goal.
Lindsey Chamberlain led Potomac State with seven goals, while Savannah Chamberlain had five goals.
Lancaster Bible is back in action on Tuesday when they host St. Elizabeth at 4 p.m.
