Just 24 hours after sweeping a doubleheader from Gallaudet in Washington, D.C., the Lancaster Bible softball team lost twice on Sunday to Wilson in Chambersburg, Pa. The Phoenix won both games, 10-6 as they improved to 5-1 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play and stayed atop the South Division standings. Lancaster Bible meanwhile dropped to 6-12 overall and 4-6 in conference play.
In game one, Lancaster Bible held a 6-3 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth inning before the Phoenix erupted for seven runs in the inning and held on for a 10-6 win. Freshman
Julia D'Arrigo had her second straight great day at the plate as she hit a two-run double in the second inning to give the Chargers a 3-2 lead.Â
Ali Morton and
Kellie Wright had RBI hits in the third, while
Kellie Wallace added an RBI single in the sixth that scored D'Arrigo.Â
Wilson sent 10 batters to the plate in the sixth as the Phoenix scored seven times and had five hits.Â
D'Arrigo finished 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI in game one, while
Kelsey Collins was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Eight of the nine Lancaster Bible starters had at least one hit, including Morton who knocked in a run and scored a run.
Emily Coffman took the loss in game one as she scattered seven hits over six innings, while allowing eight earned runs and striking out three.Â
Wilson scored three runs in the bottom of the first in game two to take an early 3-0 lead and eventually took a 4-0 lead into the fourth inning when the Lancaster Bible offense woke up and scored five times to take a 5-4 lead. Five different players had RBIs in the fourth as
Emily Coffman, Morton, Hartline, Kane and D'Arrigo all drove in runs.Â
Wilson retook the lead in the bottom half of the inning on a two-run double by Kayla Sullenberger. The Chargers tied the game, 6-6, thanks to another RBI single from D'Arrigo, but the bottom of the sixth proved to be the difference again as Wilson scored four times and held on to win again, 10-6.Â
Once again, eight of the nine Lancaster Bible starters had a hit, including
Richelle Kane and Coffman who each drove in a run as well. D'Arrigo took the loss as she entered the game in the fourth after Collins pitched the first three innings.Â
Lancaster Bible is back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Lancaster County neighbor Elizabethtown for a doubleheader that is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
