Perhaps the Lancaster Bible softball team's offense was filing its taxes on Wednesday afternoon, because the Chargers' bats did not make the trip to Elizabethtown as Lancaster Bible managed just four hits in two games and the host Blue Jays won, 11-0 and 4-0 on Tax Day. The losses drop the Chargers to 6-14 this season, while Elizabethtown improved to 10-14.Â
Freshman
Emily Coffman provided all of the offense for Lancaster Bible in game one as she had both Chargers hits and finished the game 2-for-2. Elizabethtown took a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the third, but a two-run double and a two-run home run by Kelsey Brown extended the lead to 5-0. An inning later Elizabethtown sent nine batters to the plate and scored six more runs to take an 11-0 lead, the score the Blue Jays would win by a half-inning later.
In addition to providing the offense in game one, Coffman also pitched for the Chargers. She gave up 11 hits in four innings, but because of four Lancaster Bible errors, only four of the 11 runs were earned runs for Coffman.Â
Game two was a pitcher's duel between Lancaster Bible's
Kelsey Collins and Elizabethtown starter Keli Krause. The game was scoreless until the fourth inning when Elizabethtown's Jess White doubled home the game's first run. Two innings later, White was at it again as she hit a two-run home run to extend the Blue Jays' lead to 4-0.Â
Collins pitched six innings and allowed just five hits and one earned run while striking out three. Krause meanwhile struck out 12 batters and allowed just two hits. Those hits came off the bats of
Kellie Wright and
Richelle Kane who joined Coffman as the only Lancaster Bible players to record a hit on Wednesday.
The Chargers are back in action on Friday when they host Wilson for a doubleheader that is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.Â
