The last day of a long three day stretch for the Lancaster Bible baseball team ended with a split of the doubleheader against Penn College. The Wildcats took game one, 8-0 but Lancaster Bible was able to come back from the loss and take game two, 3-2. The games today move the Chargers' record to 10-15 overall and 4-6 in the conference.
The Chargers will once again take a little break from the regular schedule as they will go play the Lancaster Barnstormers of the Independent League for a little fun exhibition game. After the exhibition the Chargers will be back in action on Saturday as they travel to Reading, PA to take on the Nittany Lions of Penn St. Berks, with the first game starting at 1:00 p.m.
Game 1: Lancaster Bible 0, Penn College 8In the first game the Chargers got off to a slow start and looked like a team that was playing for the third straight day. The bats struggled all day as the Chargers could only muster up two hit throughout the whole nine innings. The Chargers were able to advance runners to third on seperate occasions, but were never able to get a run across the plate.
Zack Leonard pitched a strong six innings as he only allowed three runs. The Wildcats got to the Chargers' bullpen and blew open the game in the bottom of the eigth inning, scoring five runs to make the score 8-0. The score stayed the same as Lancaster Bible was not able to score any runs in the top of the ninth inning.
The two hits for the Chargers came from
Braden Elliott and
Justin Taylor. Both
Erich Carroll and Taylor were able to draw two walks.
Game 2: Lancaster Bible 3, Penn College 2The second game was a tight one all the way through as both the Chargers and Wildcats exchanged runs in the first inning. It then became a pitching duel between Lancaster Bible's
Wade Zweizig and Penn College's Kyle Fox. The Wildcats were able to score one more run off Zweizig in the bottom of the sixth to make the score 2-1 in the Wildcats favor. The Chargers would not let that get them down as they rallied to score 2 runs off a two RBI single from
Braden Elliott to take the lead 3-2.
Nate Staffieri came in for the Chargers to earn his first save and give Zweizig his first win of the year.
Justin Taylor hit his team tying fourth homerun of the year, and four Chargers were able to draw walks.
