In the midst of a stretch in which the team will play 10 games in six days, the Lancaster Bible softball team continued its six-day excursion with a doubleheader sweep of Trinity (D.C.) on Friday in Lancaster, Pa. Friday's games were the final two home games of the season for the Chargers as they hammered the Tigers, 22-0 in game one and 20-4 in game two. The 22 runs scored in game one are the most for the Chargers since they brought back softball for the 2014 season. Using the entire history book (Lancaster Bible did not have softball from 2002-2013), it is the most runs Lancaster Bible has scored since the 1997 season when the Chargers scored 33 runs at Valley Forge Christian.
On Friday, the Chargers scored in every inning of game one, including the third inning when they posted 14 runs and sent 18 batters to the plate. Lancaster Bible had just nine hits over the course of game one, but drew 14 walks, led by
Hope Lewis who had a team-high four walks in game one.
Courtney Koser was 2-for-2 in game one and drove in six runs, while
Kelsey Collins was 1-for-3 with three RBI.
Alicia Ort and Lewis each scored four runs in game one, while
Julia D'Arrigo and
Kellie Wallace each scored three times.
Emily Coffman picked up her fourth win of the season as she allowed just two hits and struck out seven.
The Chargers equaled their game one feat as they scored in each of the four innings they came to the plate in game two as they once again put up a double digit inning when they scored 10 times in the second inning. Instead of the walks and good batters eye that led to runs in game one, it was the bats for the Chargers that did the talking in game two as the Chargers pounded out 16 hits in four innings.Â
D'Arrigo and Coffman led the way with three hits apiece, as Coffman was 3-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored. Lewis picked up her first collegiate hit as she was 1-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored in game two. Senior
Kellie Wright was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI and
Richelle Kane continued to swing a hot bat as she was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.Â
Each Lancaster Bible player scored at least once in game two, including Collins who was 1-for-1 with three runs scored. D'Arrigo picked up her first collegiate win in game two as she gave up just four hits and one earned run while striking out a career-high 12 batters.Â
Lancaster Bible continues its drive for a spot in the North Eastern Athletic Conference playoffs on Saturday as the Chargers head north on Route 222 to take on Penn St. Berks. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.Â
