Chargers Notch First Win

The Lancaster Bible women's soccer team earned its first victory of the 2015 season as the Chargers doubled up Cairn, 4-2 in Langhorne, Pa. The victory improves the Chargers to 1-3 this season, while Cairn dropped to 1-3. 

The Rundown: The first half featured five goals between the two teams as Cairn took the early 1-0 lead on a goal by Meghan Wilson at the 16:29 mark. The Chargers responded less than 10 minutes later as senior Brooke Cullum put home a bouncing ball off of a corner kick and tied the game. Nine minutes later, the Chargers took their first lead of the season as sophomore Raegan Horst scored her first goal of the year off a feed from Alyssa Wesner. 

The lead was short-lived as Cairn's Alicia Geistdorfer scored her first goal of the season to knot the score at 2-2. Lancaster Bible capped the crazy half on a goal by Wesner as she scored with 46 seconds remaining in the first half off a pass from Marisa Jo Abts. Junior Kirsten Webster gave the Chargers some insurance 12 minutes into the second half as she netted her second goal of the season. Sophomore Rachel Kumher earned the assist on Webster's goal, while senior Katilyn Scheuing finished with four saves.

By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible had 17 shots to Cairn's 12 and the Chargers held a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks...Cullum's goal snapped an 11-game goal scoring drought as her last goal came on Oct. 5, 2014 at St. Elizabeth...Horst's goal was the first of her collegiate career...Tuesday marked the 10th time in Wesner's career that she had at least three points in a game.

The Coach Says: "I thought it was tremendously positive that we had four different players score," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Leah Sipe said. "We've been struggling to score goals and I think she showed ourselves today that not only can we score, but we can come back from being down as well." ... "We still have lots of work to do, but today's win is exactly what we needed heading into conference play this weekend."

Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 8-10-2 against Cairn and has won two straight against the Highlanders...Wesner's goal is the 27th of her career which is the seventh-most in program history...Wesner also picked up the game-winning goal on Tuesday and she now has eight for her career, which is tied for the fourth-most in program history.

Up Next: The Chargers open North Eastern Athletic Conference play on Friday as they welcome Wells to Charger Field...The game is scheduled to begin at 5:15 p.m...Lancaster Bible defeated Wells, 4-1 last season in Aurora, N.Y...Wells is 1-5 this season.
